A Gender Pay Gap occurs when women are paid lower pay rates or salaries as a man performing the same job. Determining the sources of a gender pay gap can be difficult, ranging from differences in educational background for men and women, work history, and family leave. Other factors have been studied such as whether women negotiate from pay as stringently as their male counterparts, gender discrimination, and differences in the types of jobs men and women might choose to pursue.

The goal in the workplace is to close this gender gap.
