What is Summary Dismissal?

Summary Dismissal is the act of firing an employee without notice. Employers have a right to let go of employees without notice in exceptional circumstance that are usually outlined prior to employment in the company handbook. Generally speaking, summary dismissal is used when the employee commits a particularly inappropriate act, such as theft, assault, or behavior that puts other people into danger. Summary dismissal is an important right of employers, but it should be used only in exceptional circumstances. They can be contested in a court of law if they employee doesn’t feel their actions warranted it.
