What is Protected Concerted Activity?

Protected Concerted Activity refers to the rights that employees have to organize or join labor unions and to collectively bargain with employers. It is protected because employers are not allowed to retaliate against employees who are engaging in these activities. Although protected concerted activity is usually referring to union activity, the protections are in place any time two or more employees work together for better employment conditions. Employees may not be dismissed or “punished” for seeking better working conditions or for engaging in collective bargaining.
