Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) is the principle that all employees have an equal opportunity to work without discrimination. By federal law, workers are entitled to protection from discrimination for a variety of reasons including race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Laws have been expanded on the state and local level to cover additional categories for protection, including age, disability, family history and genetic information and, on the state level, sexual orientation.
